Google revealed plans to develop self-driving cars several years ago. Until now, global automotive and technology companies are exploring this area with huge market prospects. According to Google and other companies, the purpose of self-driving cars is to reduce man-made driving mistakes, thereby reducing the number of accidents and casualties. The lack of light is extremely common, but sometimes it can have fatal consequences. Last week, Ford revealed that it is focusing on improving the safety of driving vehicles in poor light conditions. Ford's self-driving cars rely on three types of sensors—radars, cameras, and LiDAR distance sensors—to detect roads, obstacles, and track vehicle positions. Laser technology can emit approximately 2.8 million laser pulses in one second, allowing the car to have full sensor functionality under any external conditions. Self-driving cars can use this data to generate a 3D map of the surroundings. In testing the technology, Ford engineers used night-vision goggles and observed the Ford Fusion car outside the car. They said that without driving the headlights, the Fusion car could only rely on LiDAR technology to drive on a dark road without any accident.
