What is TOF?

TOF, also known as time-of-flight ranging, is short for Time of Flight. The so-called time-of-flight 3D imaging is to obtain the target distance by continuously transmitting light pulses to the target, then receiving the light returned from the object with the sensor, and detecting the flight (round-trip) time of the light pulse.

The ToF ranging method is a two-way ranging technique that measures the distance between nodes by using the time between the two asynchronous transceivers (or the reflected surface). The traditional ranging technology is divided into two-way ranging technology and one-way ranging technology. The result estimated by the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) ranging method is ideal when the signal level is better modulated or in the non-line-of-sight line of sight environment; in the line-of-sight vision environment, based on the ToF distance estimation The method can make up for the shortcomings based on the RSSI distance estimation method.
