Introduction to Lidar

LiDAR is now a relatively hot industry, mainly used in unmanned vehicles, robots, drones, equivalent to the eyes of these smart devices, used to detect the surrounding environment and perceived distance, and then feedback to these smart devices, let them know that should How to exercise, move forward, or say how to avoid obstacles.

The main competitors encountered by laser ranging radars are millimeter-wave radars, which are farther away from millimeter-wave radars, and are not affected by the environment such as rain, fog, smoke, etc., including strong solar emission. Its main disadvantage may be the accuracy of ranging. Not as accurate as Lidar. The problem with lidar is that if the weather is bad or it rains, it is not very easy to use and will be affected. In addition, in environments where the reflection is relatively strong like water or glass, the impact is relatively large.

However, Lidar also has its own characteristics. Lidar is actively detected by laser, and is not affected by ambient light. It directly measures the distance, depth and reflectivity of the object. The algorithm first identifies the obstacles and then classifies them. The recognition accuracy and reliability far exceed the camera, and the computational resources consumed are lower than the camera.
