Ranging Sensor Welcomes Opportunity

Sensors are the entrance of data acquisition, the "heart" of the Internet of Things, intelligent devices, unmanned driving and so on, which will usher in a huge space for development. There are many kinds and applications of sensors, such as acceleration sensors, light sensors, distance sensors, fingerprint recognition sensors, etc. in mobile phones. There are hundreds of speed sensors, tire pressure sensors, engine speed sensors and so on. The number of sensors often represents the level of intelligence.

Distance Sensor is a kind of sensor which uses the principle of "time-of-flight method" to detect the distance of objects. With the increasing demand for range sensing in mobile phones, smart families, robots, UAVs and other markets, this product has been paid more and more attention. Laser Ranging Sensor was born to meet the market demand.

Optimum indoor environment for laser ranging

The need for distance sensing has always existed, and people have been exploring the use of various components to detect the physical changes of objects, by converting the changes into distances, and then measuring the distance of objects, as well as their displacements.

At present, the ranging sensor technology in the market mainly includes infrared ranging, inductance ranging, ultrasonic ranging and laser ranging. Among them, infrared distance sensor transmits infrared pulse signal through infrared light source, and receives it through receiver. It measures the time of infrared light from emission to reflection by object, and calculates the distance between object and infrared distance by measuring time. However, the infrared band is more susceptible to interference. When starting it, it is often necessary to turn off other devices. The disadvantage of inductance technology is that the measuring distance is relatively short, and the measuring accuracy usually decreases dramatically when the measuring distance exceeds 10 cm. Therefore, the application scope of these two technologies in consumer electronics, such as smart phones, is affected. As for the advantages of the ultrasonic ranging sensor, it has a long transmission distance (the sensing distance exceeds 80 meters), but the device is large and the positioning accuracy is poor. So this kind of technology is mostly used outdoors, such as car navigation, but it is difficult to apply in consumer electronics products.

Therefore, in terms of indoor application environment, laser ranging technology is the most suitable. JRT's newly developed laser ranging sensor, after using TOF technology, can extend the ranging length to 15 meters, the maximum measurement frequency can reach 200 Hz, and the accuracy can be controlled at about 5 centimeters.
